Climate change has evolved from an environmental issue to a global emergency. The upcoming UN climate change conference taking place in Katowice, Poland on December the 3rd, COP24, is the biggest immediate opportunity for countries to show they’re taking 1.5°C seriously, by communicating their low-carbon strategies and ensuring that revised national climate plans (i.e., Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs) align with 2050 plans for decarbonization. Consumer behavior and lifestyle choices significantly impact carbon emissions and as such, the world’s greenest beauty brand O’right has made it their mission to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainability. This year, O’right was validated by SGS for carbon neutrality as a corporate organization as well as achieving the zero carbon standard for nine of their products. To bring sustainability to the next level, they vow to rely fully on renewable energy in 7 years through membership in the RE100 initiative. RE100 is a global corporate leadership initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP that brings together influential companies committed to 100% renewable electricity. O’right continues to pursue sustainable development practices on their journey towards shaping a better future for all.
O’right makes commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2025
The green trend is taking the beauty industry by storm, with world famous brands such as L’Oreal and Aveda following a more sustainable business model. Among the list of brands is Taiwanese company O’right, who has made a name for themselves in the sustainable beauty industry from their products, green factory, logistics to CSR initiatives, reducing up to a whopping 1,427,120 kg of carbon emissions on earth.
O’right has been working towards sustainability for many years. In 2008, their Green Tea Shampoo was certified in accordance with PAS 2050, the global standard for product carbon footprinting. Later in 2016, their greenhouse gas emissions were verified with ISO 14064 standard audits. The green pioneer is also the proud winner of two consecutive Sustainable Beauty Awards and the recipient of the EuCertPlast certificate, audited by Germany-based Cyclos, which has developed a label for consumer products and packaging made from post-consumer recyclate.
With environmental awareness on the rise, O’right regularly conducts GHG emissions inventories and carbon reduction schemes, which has earned the company Validation Opinion Statements of Carbon Neutrality Declaration by SGS as a corporate organization and for Green Tea Shampoo, Tea Tree Shampoo, Magnolia Moisturizing Shampoo, Bamboo Moisturizing Hair Treatment, Golden Rose Hair Oil, Tea Tree Hand Wash and Goji Berry Age-defying Concentrate. O’right’s journey towards sustainability does not end here. In 2018, they successfully joined RE100, aiming to become the first company in Taiwan use 100 % renewable electricity. “O’right is making a commitment to 100% renewable electricity by 2025 with the aim of doing only what’s best for earth,” O’right Chairman Steven Ko promises. Sam Kimmins, Head of RE100, The Climate Group, following the press conference added on: “We’re delighted to welcome O’Right to RE100. The company is already putting principle into practice through its sustainable products and manufacturing process, and by committing to source 100% renewable electricity, it’s going one step further in delivering a decarbonized economy.”
Taiwanese pioneer of sustainability recognized for green actions
O’right is no stranger to reaching milestones in sustainability. Following the introduction of their renewable plastic bottle, they teamed up with Living Fountain Plastic and Da Fon Environmental Technology to create the world’s first renewable plastic pump and again make history as the world’s first renewable shampoo plastic pump. This revolutionary innovation further received international recognition at the Sustainable Beauty Awards, outshining hundreds of beauty brands worldwide.
O’right believes that only an authentic green factory can product authentic green products. In 2010, they invested 200 million NTD to build their Gold-level Certified Green Headquarters, which is equipped with a double-certified TAF accredited laboratory to create pure, green beauty products manufactured with energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy generated by solar and wind power. Complete with a green logistic system and annual beach cleanups, Earth Hour and tree planting activities, the trailblazer for sustainability is fully committed to paving the way to greater impact. A greener environment, society and economy is vital and possible.
